Local Hints … (Summer)

Each cabin has a gas grill on the deck. If you like to grill out, Eddie’s Country Store on the corner has the best meats on the Mountain. If you like to have a beer, Charlie Clarks Steakhouse on the opposite corner is a favorite for many. On the summer weekends they have their beer garden (The Orchard) open and sometimes live music. All of these are within walking distance of the cabin. Also give The Lodge and The Lion’s Den a try for food and fun.

There are many lakes around, both on the Indian reservation and in the city. Only a mile or so away is Woodland Lake Park with the whole Park set up for family fun. There are picnic tables, and a large lake with a 1 mile walking path around it which is pet friendly. You can fish, feed the ducks, or there are benches around the lake where you can sit and enjoy the sights. We have seen bald eagles at this lake before.

There is nearby go-karting, and miniature golfing at White Mountain Family Fun Park. Horseback riding at Porter Mountain Stables. All this within a short drive.

If you like Mexican food, there is Los Corrales and El Rancho. If you like to go for a drive, Taylor and Snowflake is quaint and has an antique gallery with an old fashion working soda fountain. Many people enjoy the scenic drive to Sunrise Ski Resort which has skiing in the winter and lift rides or downhill bicycle thrills in the summer.

Local Hints … (Winter)

The White Mountains have something for everyone. If you would like to find a nice place to sled or ride an inner tube down a tall hill, head toward Sunrise Ski Resort and between Honda Casino and Sunrise there is A1-Lake to your right. If there is snow, you will notice people sliding down the slopes on almost anything from cardboard, and inner tubes to sleds. This is a nice place to go with long, treeless runs and it is FREE. If Skiing is more your style, keeping going down the road to Sunrise Ski Resort which has runs for both skiers and snowboarders. The turn off to Sunrise is about 30 minutes from the cabins.

If you’ve found a Pinetop-Lakside gem on the mountain that you’d like to share with us, please do so!
